Peel & Heal
RégimA ‘Peel & Heal’ contains natural alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). AHAs render the peel suitable for rejuvenation in all skin types by separating the damaged outer dead layer from the new, healthy living layer. BHAs uniquely penetrate the oil in the pores and exfoliate accumulated skin cells inside the oil gland, an important quality for acne and problem skin for unplugging blocked pores, removing blackheads and tightening pores. It also benefits those with sensitive skins, rosacea or acne rosacea.

Why choose natural over synthetic acids?
Natural AHAs are not stabilised with chemical agents which may cause irritation. Natural acids are more easily absorbed and cell regeneration is enhanced with rapid healing, they are more effective and significantly do not increase the blood vessels in the skin resulting in less broken capillaries. Synthetic acids cause a short, sharp, shock to the skin, which may cause superficial peeling with no long-term therapeutic action. Synthetic acids, such as glycolic are much cheaper than natural acids.

Malic, lactic, citric and a natural fruit acid complex containing a small amount of natural glycolic are used in RégimA’s unique ‘Peel & Heal’ . Who Performs the ‘Peel & Heal’?
RégimA peels must be performed by either a doctor or a trained skin care professional. This is a strictly in-salon or doctors rooms ‘treatment’ and is not for home care application.

How Often Should One Have A Peel?
A series of peels may be necessary to achieve an optimal end result. It is more favourable to start off conservatively with the peels, increasing treatment times according to patient/client reaction and tolerance. With pigmentation or acne weekly peels or fortnightly peels are recomended, depending on response, need and concentration of the peel. Assessments are made regularly and treatments are adjusted accordingly, progressing to monthly or 6 weekly peels.

What will the ‘Peel & heal’ feel like & why?
The potent alpha-hydroxy acids (fruit acids) have a low pH (they are acidic) enabling gradual penetratation of the skin to the living layer. In the process bacteria on the skin are destroyed providing an essential ‘acid mantle’, rendering it perfect for problem skins with no risk of cross-infection.

The acidity causes a degree of stinging, the intensity of which depends on the condition of the skin. On initial application a slight stinging/tingling sensation and itchiness may be experienced, mainly during the first 5 minutes following application.

RégimA Laser Gel is massaged onto the treated area to relieve any stinging or itchiness not affecting the efficacy of the peel in any way, just providinga mild ‘anaesthetic’ effect. Symptoms subside during the procedure. Each peel may not feel the same with various factors influencing the symptoms such as when applied pre-menstrually and extremes of weather temperatures.

During the neutralisation process stinging is also experienced but it is transient and rapidly subsides leaving your skin feeling as smooth as silk - making any slight discomfort worth the end results.

What do I use after the ‘Peel & Heal’?
Post peel RégimA products are applied depending on personal needs following a treatment. Laser Gel must be applied if visible peeling is observed and skin should not be allowed to dry out or peel excessively. This accelerates healing and keeps the skin beautifully supple.

If no visible peeling occurs, RégimA Quantum Elastin OR Scar Repair is applied on the night of the peel, with the application of Rejuvo-Derm Night Repair or Night Renewal Ultimate Booster commencing within 1 to 2 days.

Can I Use Other Products In Conjunction With RégimA ‘Peel & Heal’?
No! - The natural peel and ingredients within RégimA home care have been formulated to work synergistically. Other products may not react favourably as they may contain incompatible chemicals. RégimA ‘Peel & Heal will only be applied to patients/clients using strictly RégimA products to achieve 100%  effectiveness.

What Will I Look Like After The Peel?
Dependent on skin type, a degree of erythema (redness) is experienced during the peel and the skin will feel hot, mainly due to stimulation as the skin is re-oxygenated.  The depth of redness varies from person to person and usually subsides within a few hours. In extreme skin conditions the discolouration may last a few days, but this is rare and usually only occurs after the first peel.

Superficial flaking may occur over the next few days and the skin may feel ‘sand papery’, but use of the specified products will alleviate this. Life can be resumed as normal. A dark look to the skin is normal and will improve as the skin resumes normality with treatment.

Will I Peel For Long?
Visible signs of peeling and flaking may or may not occur for a few days after the peel and reactions may vary from session to session. There are no contra- indications or long term side effects.

Know Your Acids & Action
Fruit acids work until neutralised and must only be used at night, in doctors rooms or in-salon treatment. They must never be used during the daytime as exposure to the sun may result in pigmentation, even if a product contains a sunscreen.

AHAs (Alpha-Hydrox Acids)
AHAs - organic acids found in natural sources or synthesised. Exfoliate outer dead layer of skin, increase skin thickness, improve the quality of elastic fibres with increased density of collagen. Removal of the outer most layer of the skin stimulates the cells in lower layers to grow and divide, causing the skin to thicken and thus diminish signs of ageing. The more exfoliatiation, the more cell divisions will occur in the lower skin layers.

Alpha hydroxy acids produce a significant reversal of epidermal and dermal photo ageing, effectiveness mainly dependent on concentration of acid and the pH (acidity). Over the counter cosmetic AHA products have very low concentrations with less efficacy.

Natural acids are not contaminated by chemicals, have a micro-molecular structure, safely penetrate to the basal (living) layer and have a therapeutic action.

Malic Acid (natural acid)
Has a dual power for more skin types and benefits. Powerful action without the irritation.

Lactic Acid (natural acid)
Increases skin moisturization and imparts a smoother feel, has a powerful action without irritation

Citric Acid (natural acid)
An AHA and a BHA dual action with a positive effect on pigmentation.

Glycolic Acid (natural or synthetic)
Can penetrate to the basal (living) layer but will probably have buffering chemiclas which could potentially cause irritation. Always check ingredients used.

Gluconolactone synthetic acid (PHA)
Similar to AHAs with a larger molecular structure limiting penetration into the skin. Mild and work very superficially with no irritations and no deeper, therapeutic action.

TCA (Trichloracetic Acid)
Synthetic Acid
Chemical peel formulated by chlorinating acetic acid can work successfully if used by skilled personnel, but potential side effects of hyper-pigmentation and hypo-pigmentation can occur. In certain cases it has been seen that initially following a TCA peel the skin is smoother and pigmentation reduced significantly. Skin is sensitive to sunlight for 6-8 weeks and there is a risk of pigmentation recurring.

Phenol
Highly corrosive peel only performed by a skilled clinician and only in a hospital environment. This chemical is used mainly for deep perioral wrinkles. Slow healing with skin remaining red for several months. The resultant skin is usually very smooth, but there is a high risk of de-pigmentation (whited skin) requiring the use of a heavier foundation.
